She is recognized as the recipient of the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Award, USW Young Alumnus Award, CAPPA Outstanding Achievement, Faculty of the Year, Most Enthusiastic Seeker of Certifications, and Sowing Seeds Awards, and LCWN Career Achievement Award for her contribution to families in the community and volunteer service in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Katrina is happily married with three children. She had normal pregnancies, ranging from 40-43 weeks, accompanied by all the associated ups and downs. After 6-32 hours of unmedicated labor, she gave birth to healthy babies in water either at home or at a birthing center with a midwife and her labor support team. However, she felt alone during the postpartum periods and experienced severe depression, which she eventually conquered with professional treatment. Despite the lack of support, she exclusively breastfed through various challenges until self-weaning occurred between 2-6 years of age. Having experience as a single teenage mother, married stay-at-home wife, and work-at-home tandem nurser, she is living proof that most parents can achieve a positive pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and breastfeeding experience in almost any circumstance.
